Watercolouring in and on our products - January trend watching with Polly

11:00

Hello, Hello!! Ruth here today to chat all things watercolour.

Making kits every month for you that include the latest hottest trends is the most wonderful part of my work. I really love pouring over the catalogues and preorders, hunting for the best combination of new and on-trend products to include for you each month.

So let's chat about these hot trends that you see each month in your kits! This year, I thought it would be fun to highlight a current trend each month that is showing up in the Polly kits and look at that trend across the board right now, and at a few fun and relevant things that might interest you about that trend and how you might use it in scrapbooking.

This month we are looking at watercolours, they are HOT HOT HOT, in scrapbooking and everywhere else, and I am certain this watercolour trend will show up again in future kits, as anyone who has seen images from the latest CHA will have seen lots more watercolour influenced designs and ideas are being released in 2014.
Watercolour has been hitting as a hot idea across a lot of markets from phones, to cakes, fashion to party decorations and even on our nailpolish, it is a big craze. (click on any images in this blog post to find the original sources)

We have option in papercrafting, to have it all down for you or to try and DIY the watercolour. I love to use both, as I simply cannot create some of the beautiful effects that are in some of this month's products. You can see it in the Basic Grey Fresh Cut line that is in both the January kits as well as in the designs from Studio Calico's Printshop which also shows up in both kits.
The wonderful thing about watercolouring, as I mentioned, is that is also something we can add on top of our products, Three fabulous resources for watercolour ideas are firstly this youtube video from Kimberly Crawford on watercolouring techniques with gelatos,

Secondly an awesome step out of a watercolour layout by the queen of wet media, Julie Fei-Fan Balzer

Finally this article for Shimelle.com written by Jen Kinkade giving five ideas for using watercolours, which is seriously packed with ideas on watercolouring in your layouts.

I hope you feel very inspired by this trend, which appears in your latest Polly Scrap January Kit, which should be hitting doorsteps by now, and we look forward to seeing your own projects featuring premade watercolour patterns or your own artsy styling!

xx Ruth
