September Sketch: Come & be a 'gypsy' with Lauren!09:00
Hi Scrappy Canaries!
Lauren here. I hope that you are all enjoying the Spring sunshine and that your creative juices are flowing. Mine have been in overdrive, particularly given how amazing the August Scrappy Canary kits are! I have to say (and I know I say this a lot) but these are my favourite kits we have ever had! These kits are exactly my style - the colours, the stamps, the patterns and the embellishments! True love!
Every month the team here at Scrappy Canary put a sketch out there to inspire you to create a card, PL page or a traditional layout. You can put your take on the sketch out there and be in with the chance to win a $10 gift card for the store. You can find out more here and check out Manda's process video.
This month I used the August Pocket Scrapbooking Kit - Gypsy and the Embellishment Kit - Nomad to create a more traditional layout based on the September Sketch. That's the beauty about the Pocket Scrapbooking kits is that you don't have to keep them confined to pocket page layouts - you can use them for anything.
I used this kit to document my 'birth-iversary' as my husband Ashley and I got married on my birthday five years ago! I wanted to include two photos, so instead of paper I added the second photo so I was able to include a photo from this year, plus one of our wedding pics from when we got married on the beach in Hawaii.
This sketch was also perfect for using up left over scraps of paper that I had from my Pocket Life layout (which I will show you all below). How cute are the embellishments? The Wilna flair is the cutest and I really loved the Elle's Studio wood grain alpha - it also had so many letters that I used it for the entire pocket and traditional layout plus I have lots left over!
I also used the 'Gypsy' kit to document my birthday week - it was such a great week of celebrations! The white die cuts were great to use and I backed them on some of the orange paper to add consistency across the layout, plus backing them also made them pop!
The stamp was great as it meant that I could add journalling to my layout and add a point of interest to the layout. The journalling cards I got in my kit had black and white elements so I pulled out my markers and got colouring! Colouring is so therapeutic. I also wanted the titles to stand out, as I felt they got lost on some of the cards, so I outlined them in black which I think worked well. The Elle's Studios labels were also great for journalling and those gold stickers were so awesome!
So there you have it, my take on the September Sketch and a little 'Gypsy' sojourn into my birthday week. I can't wait to see what you all create as your take on the sketch. Keep crafting! Lauren xx.
